Instant Coffee - November 7, 2007
[download link—the file is wayyyy too big for Tumblr to handle]
It’s a Christmas miracle. I thought all of these tapes were destroyed.
I found one episode, and it’s a doozy (not a good doozy).
This is an early installment of my college radio show Instant Coffee with co-host Jen Bokoff. That makes this a must-listen for fans of me, her, or We Live With You.
Some context.
I cut off...

Favorite Films of 2010, briefly annotated
The best:
(Tied, because I don’t like deciding.)
1. The Social Network
Pitch perfect. Really well crafted, if that makes sense. Jesse Eisenberg is awesome, too.
1. Black Swan
I actually gasped a bunch, and physically recoiled once. That doesn’t usually happen for me. Kitschy, maybe, and on the nose, definitely, but brilliant.
1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
I’ve never...

Best of the best:
Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
I remember downloading “Monster” the night it was released. Max and I were getting ready to go out. We listened to it like seven times and then just put Nicki’s verse on repeat a few times. Kanye brought back event listening in 2010. Runaway on the VMAs? Come on. This is the best album in years. Stunning.

My Pummelvision. Got it this morning and forgot about it.
Pretty cool?
Spans high school, two colleges, and some post-grad life.
Lots of concerts. Notable appearance: Janelle Monae’s first show in NY (cue “I was there…”)
Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Germany, Italy, lots of Switzerland.
You will see me at many varying weights and with many varying styles.

Subway Stories 2, in which I get mad.
OK, so forgive me if I come off as angry or something because I just felt really mad in a way that I didn’t remember I could feel. Plus I’m not really going to edit it, so, you know. As-is.
I’m taking the B train home to Brooklyn from Manhattan and it’s unusually crowded. Usually there’s a surprising amount of space on that train at 7 or so but today it was crazy. An...

On abortion:
The Salvation Army holds to the Christian ideals of chastity before marriage and fidelity within the marriage relationship and, consistent with these ideals, supports measures to prevent crisis pregnancies. It is opposed to abortion as a means of birth control, family planning, sex selection or for any reason of mere convenience to avoid the responsibility for conception....
Instant Coffee: blast from the past →
jenbokoff:
Steve and I used to do this 2 hour radio show on Wednesday mornings called Instant Coffee. The tapes have been destroyed, but my current review of old computer files produced these gems….outlines of two shows. I can’t tell you what half of it means, but that’s what makes it great. Enjoy, and…

Subway Stories
So I’m on a Manhattan-bound B train (insanely crowded) this morning and there were a couple of arguments between strangers as we crossed over the bridge. I had headphones in, no duh, so I didn’t really hear what they were saying, but this one guy who was hilariously tall kept hitting people with his backpack and they started to complain and gesture a bunch. It felt awkward.
Fighting?...
