I see no choice but to host a regular Skins ”reading” group, starting Monday, January 17, 10:00 PM. I’m accepting applications from anybody interested.
Prerequisites: At least Season 1 of U.K. Skins. Seasons 2–5 of Degrassi: The Next Generation (7–10 highly advised). At least four seasons total of Gossip Girl, The O.C., and/or Laguna Beach. One or both PBS documentary series: American High (R.J. Cutler, 2000) and Senior Year (David Zeiger, 2000). Demonstrated proficiency in three or more of the following: Degrassi (Junior) High, Beverly Hills, 90210, James at 15, 21 Jump Street, Saved by the Bell. My So-Called Life, entirety. Freaks and Geeks, entirety. Veronica Mars, entirety. Seasons 1–2 of Boston Public highly advised. At least three seasons each of Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Breakfast Club. “Detention,” the Dawson’s Creek tribute to The Breakfast Club. “Take on Me,” the Degrassi: TNG tribute to The Breakfast Club. At least 25% (16+ episodes) of Daria. At least four of the following: Cruel Intentions, Kids, Thirteen, Elephant, the complete Jena Malone oeuvre. Previous coursework in theory and praxis of televisual transatlanticism, with working knowledge of The Office, Top Gear, Queer as Folk, Life on Mars, Coupling. Familiarity with urban geography of Toronto, ON.

I’m watching all of Skins (U.K.) Vol. 1 tomorrow if anyone wants to stop by.
Skins vol. 2 is the much more essential Skins series. And don’t lose faith in Series 3 (you will!) because I’ve heard Series 4 is “intense.”
