It’s time for another installment of ‘this drink is good,’ because I just made another good drink. You can see the first installment here.
Have you ever had a Pimm’s Cup? With the weather being what it is (amazing), it’s a lovely refreshing beverage for a weekend afternoon. Time to make one! Surprisingly easy and fun!
I guess it was probably the royal wedding or something, but basically every liquor store in my neighborhood this weekend was out of Pimm’s No. 1 Cup. I got the last bottle at this place on Washington Avenue with the bulletproof glass and all that and the dude charged me extra (!) but, you know, I got it. I think it usually runs about 20 dollars. If you don’t know what it is, read about it on Wikipedia because I don’t have the time for you.
So basically, good luck finding it, but once you do, it’s totally worth it. Then get thee to a grocery store because you’re going to need fruit. Let’s just get to the list, eh?
You’ll need:
Pimm’s No. 1 Cup. It looks British.
sprite/7-up/sierra mist/etc. sparkling lemonade if you’re fancy.
a cucumber
an orange
an apple
a lemon
a lime
strawberries, if they look ok
mint leaves (for garnish only… not totally necessary but I also recommend graduating to mint juleps later in the evening)
We’re going to make enough for a few people (2-3) because if you’re not sharing this thing, you’re going to want a few of ‘em.
Cut the cucumber, orange, apple, lemon, and lime in halves and store the other halves for your next batch. There will be a next batch.
Cut all the fruit halves (and three or four strawberries, if you want) into manageably small slices. As thin as you’re comfortable with.
Stick it all in a pitcher (or, if you don’t have one that’s big enough, a giant Tupperware container or something).
Add ~1 cup of Pimm’s. Just pour it over the fruit. Go ahead.
Add ~3 cups of soda.
Stir it all around and make sure the fruit is soaking.
Fill big glasses (seriously big ones! water glasses! or pilsener glasses if you have them) with ice.
Ladle some fruit and beverage into the glass until full. You may need to use a chopstick or something to make sure that the fruit isn’t all just laying on top of the ice. Mix that shit around.
Garnish with mint leaves.
Drink until the world seems like a better place. Plus, as Max just said, “it’s like a drink AND a snack!”
Enjoy!
