Logical Punctuation: Should We Start Placing Commas Outside Quotation Marks? →

Even though I’ve been a total grammar nerd since I learned to write, the fact that commas and periods go inside quotation marks (in the U.S., at least) took me the longest to learn. It really does make no sense, but I finally got the hang of it.

I, too, am a total grammar nerd, but this is one rule that I followed as long as I had to (i.e., as long as I would lose points on a paper for breaking it) and then promptly gave up after high school. Abolish dumb comma placement!
