"Hello, Tess Lynch" →

tesslynch:

She Who Will Not Be Named is a perfect example of a person who has experienced unbounded hatred and tearing-down; since I can’t name her, I hope it will suffice to say that she is a person who embodies a figure who’s aware of every single nasty thing said about her, and whose feelings obviously get demolished on the regular. The website dedicated to all of her missteps gets so awful, so offensive, that it’s no surprise that when she stepped in to talk to her haters, they immediately had to tone it down and talk to her like an actual person. I took this to mean that not everything they write, not all of the outrage at a post of a pink dress or a comment about dating, finds its origins in the person at whom they’re training their poison darts. They’re pissed off at the cult of celebrity and the attention that someone gets who, they feel, doesn’t deserve it. They have made this person their totem, but it’s not all about her; they’re piggybacking on her notoriety to gain an audience for general complaints. Fine. But don’t they ever feel kind of shitty about themselves?
